44-year-old man taken into custody after vehicle chase faces charges in Sumter and Lee Counties
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — A 44-year-old Sumter man is facing multiple charges after leading Sumter County Sheriff's deputies on a vehicle pursuit that ended when the suspect crashed in a Lee County cornfield.
Sumter County Sheriff's Office states that deputies were responding to a report of an assault-in-progress on Jerry Street in Sumter on April 6 when they observed a vehicle described as belonging to the suspect passing them on the highway.
Deputies initiated lights and sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Daniel Frank McLeod, led deputies on a pursuit into neighboring Lee County, where McLeod eventually crashed into a cornfield.
